Fahmida writes “to express my sincere gratitude to you for awarding me a SVC Foundation Scholarship. I was thrilled to learn of my selection for this honor, and I sincerely appreciate your support. I am a Ph.D. candidate in Engineering Physics at McMaster University under the supervision of Dr. Peter Mascher. Vacuum coating technology has a significant impact on my research, which focuses on the fabrication and characterization of rare-earth-doped silicon-based thin films fabricated by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition and magnetron sputtering, requiring ultra-high vacuum environments. I am also investigating the optical and mechanical properties of the fabricated thin film structures for various applications, including as light-emitting diodes, for photovoltaics, and as biosensors. This SVC Foundation Scholarship will contribute significantly to my journey towards becoming an avid contributor to vacuum coating science and technology.”
