Anton says, “I am extremely honoured and happy to receive the Clark & Karen Bright Endowed Scholarship Honoring Angus Macleod from the SVC Foundation! I am a second year PhD student in the Thin Film Physics division at Linköping University, Sweden, where my project aims at developing new optics for polarized neutrons. This involves simulating novel magnetic multilayer material systems; experimentally finding the optimal conditions to grow them using ion assisted DC magnetron sputtering; characterizing the multilayers using various techniques such as X-ray scattering, magnetometry, microscopy, spectroscopy, and finally neutron scattering in order to investigate their potential for large-scale neutron facilities such as the European Spallation Source (ESS) and Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI).”
Anton continues, “Neutron scattering techniques require neutron sources only available at a handful of places in the world. We have received a large amount of beamtime at PSI in Spring 2022. This scholarship makes this trip possible that would otherwise be financially difficult. Furthermore, as a person who aspires to continue in academia, receiving this scholarship provides me the confidence I need to pursue my dream.”
